VOLUNTEERING
The Charles Village Community Benefits District has a lot of things it would like to do and not always the number of staff necessary to pull them off in a timely fashion. If you are interested in helping us with meeting planning, setup, or donating food for activities there is a need for you! If those opportunities aren’t up your alley CVCBD mailings and other outreach activities could always use an extra hand. Of course if you are looking for something more substantial we have several other opportunities you can take advantage
of . . . read below to find out about Citizens On Patrol / Charles Village Neighborhood Walkers, Block Leaders and the Charles Village CERT team (Community Emergency Response Team). Citizens On Patrol / Charles Village Neighborhood Walkers
Several organizations in the Charles Village Area are working together to provide Charles Village residents with all the support needed to run a successful COP program. Please click on these links to visit the Google Group that can provide you with information, walking schedules, and a place to leave feedback. We hope that by providing the support and handling the logistics of the program residents will have the freedom to come out and walk for an hour or two each week. It’s a great way to engage your neighbors, enjoy where you live, and get some exercise, all with the added benefit of making our neighborhood safer.
You can also visit the COP website here.

The Charles Village Area has a C.E.R.T. team (Community Emergency Response Team) and is always recruiting volunteers! We have monthly or bi-monthly meetings and there are year round trainings available for CPR, First Aid, and other helpful emergency preparedness classes. As a member there are also opportunities throughout the year to participate in City emergency drills to practice your skills. Read below to find out more about C.E.R.T. and follow the link to the city’s website.

Citizens Corps: Reminiscent of the W.W.II era Civil Defense, the C.E.R.T. Community Emergency Response Team was developed and implemented by the City of Los Angeles Fire Department in 1985. They recognized that citizens would very likely be on their own during the early stages of a disaster and that with some basic training in disaster survival and rescue skills, they would be better able to survive and help others until responders or other assistance could arrive.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. Baltimore City members trained in various other classes such as, shelter management and traffic control. For more info, contact the office at
